Get Tested!

The Federal Free Test Kit (CovidTests.gov) program has resumed!

Help keep each other safe and get tested for COVID-19 from home before large gatherings, if you were recently in a crowded setting, or if you are symptomatic for COVID-19. You do not need to present insurance or ID. You just need to provide your home address (only in the U.S.), and USPS will ship you up to 4 free antigen COVID-19 test kits (even if you had previously ordered before the program suspension). Need more? Insured people may get additional tests for free*!

Remember, unlimited free in-person testing options are also still available as they have been for most of the pandemic. Visit CVS, Walgreens, or other reputable sites for free COVID-19 testing. Proof of U.S. citizenship (ie DL or ID) or US insurance is required. Appointments are usually required.

Note: PCR (aka NAAT, RT-PCR, molecular) tests are generally considered the "gold standard" for COVID-19 testing and are preferred when available due to their higher accuracy in detecting SARS-CoV-2. Antigen tests are still very accurate but are not as sensitive in the detection of SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19. Note that most molecular tests take 1-3 days to return results, while antigen tests usually return results in 30-120 minutes.

*Health insurance companies are required to reimburse policyholders who purchase over-the-counter COVID-19 test kits, so long as original purchase receipts are properly submitted. Limit 8 tests per month/insured person (in addition to the 4 free tests from USPS), unless provider allows more. USPS currently only delivers up to 8 tests per household, regardless of the number of persons living in the household, until further notice. Reimbursement amounts vary by provider and plan.

HOME/SELF COVID-19 KIT TESTS ARE NOT ELIGIBLE FOR ALL TRAVEL. CHECK WITH YOUR DESTINATION TO SEE IF SELF-TESTS ARE ACCEPTABLE. FOR INTERNATIONAL AIR TRAVELERS ENTERING THE U.S., ONLY SELF-TESTS MONITORED VIA TELEHEALTH ARE ACCEPTED.

Orange County residents: Through a partnership with Picture Genetics, Orange County offers FREE PCR test kits (which must be shipped to a lab after swabbing) to County addresses only. Test kits and shipping to and from your home are free.

Mask Rules

As of March 12, 2022 mask rules have been eased. Troop 412, in accordance with OCBSA Guidance and CDPH, currently has no requirement to wear a mask during any Troop event.

  • Face masks are strongly recommended to be worn by all individuals, regardless of vaccination status, at all times. Face masks are no longer mandatory, however. Each parent and Scout can make their own decisions to wear a mask or not.

Following local and OCBSA guidelines, Troop 412 does not currently require any documentation of proof of a negative COVID-19 test or COVID-19 vaccination for events. Please be diligent to monitor and safeguard your own health.

When attending events outside of regular Troop Meetings, please remember to bring a face mask, as rules may vary by Troop, BSA council/district, and city or county public health rules.

Note that per Federal Law, facial coverings are now optional while aboard public transportation or when inside transportation hubs, like airports or train stations effective April 18, 2022.

LA COUNTY: Effective 9/23/2022, masks are also optional while aboard public transportation or when inside transportation hubs within L.A. County.
